Do I need to request bus transportation for my student?

  1. RHS:  (grades 9–12) If your student requires transportation you must fill out a “High School Transportation Request Form”. It must be submitted by 7/1/2025. If you have multiple high school students you will need to fill out a form for each student. This will need to be done annually.

There are several factors that determine eligibility. REFERENCE ORC 3327.02

By submitting this form you are obligating your student to ride a Ross Local School Bus for their primary transportation. Please understand that failure to consistently ride the school bus will result in the termination of their bus service for the period in which you submitted your transportation request. However, if you find your student needs transportation at a later date, you can submit another request form.

What if my child needs to be picked up or dropped off at a location other than our home address?
A Special Transportation Request Form must be submitted for any alternate pickup or drop-off locations. These requests must be renewed annually by July 1 and are subject to approval based on route availability and capacity.

How will I be notified of my child’s bus stop and schedule?
Bus stop information, including pickup and drop-off times, will be posted on the district website prior to the start of the school year. Please ensure your contact information is up to date in our system to receive timely notifications by contacting your child’s school’s front office staff.

What should I do if we move to a new address?

If your address should change, please notify the school your child attends and they will assist you in updating your student’s address. If you have students in different buildings please contact each building separately. After your child’s address is updated, please fill out a transportation request form to update your home address and your student’s pick up and drop off locations. The form you will need to fill out will depend on what school your student attends. Your student’s bus stop cannot be changed until all of the appropriate documentation has been given to your student’s school of attendance. Please allow up to five business days for route adjustments to take effect.

Families not needing an address change - please note that address changes for other families may impact your bus route as well. We appreciate your support and flexibility as we work to accommodate all families' transportation needs.

Can my child ride a different bus home with a friend?
For safety and capacity reasons, students are only permitted to ride their assigned buses.

What safety measures are in place on the buses?
All buses are equipped with safety features, and drivers are trained in student transportation safety protocols. Students are expected to follow bus rules to ensure a safe environment for everyone. Please see more information on the Transportation page of our website.

What is a “Transportation Freeze”?
A Transportation Freeze is a period, typically at the start of the school year, during which no new transportation requests or changes are processed. This allows for route stabilization. Families are encouraged to submit any transportation requests by July 1 to avoid delays.

What if my child is late to the bus stop?
Buses operate on a strict schedule and cannot wait for late students. Students should arrive at their bus stop 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Your student should be waiting in their “Designated Place of Safety” 5 minutes before the bus approaches .

What is a designated place of safety?

Each student is assigned a “designated place of safety” (safety spot). The driver will assign your student’s safety spot the first week that school is in session. Your student should be standing in that spot 5 minutes before the bus is due to arrive. The bus driver is required by law in the State of Ohio to count students waiting at the bus stop upon approach. They then have to recount as the students board the bus, this ensures that all students are accounted for before the bus moves away from a stop.
